At just under 1500 square feet The Focusrite Room (TFR) is a large comfortable space fully configurable for a large tracking sessions, overdubs or mixing.
At the heart of TFR is the Focusrite Studio Console #5 formally from the famed BOP Studios in Botswana South Africa.
At 26 feet wide, #5 (as we call her) is the largest of the 10 studio consoles and by far the most complex, boasting a variety of features not included on any of the other Focusrite consoles that were produced.
Encompassing, 116 channels, 16 configurable auxiliary sends per channel and the only studio console to provide 48 group outputs along with 3 of the coveted ISA 230 stereo buss compressors (only 4 were ever made) and completely 100% wired in all silver cabling throughout resulting in what we believe is the best sounding console ever made.
John Aquilino purchased the console in September 2019. Traveling to South Africa with Ken Hirsch and several members of Thermal Relief Design’s team to decommission the console and bring it back to the US where it has been meticulously and lovingly restored by Ken Hirsch and his team from Orphan Audio.
Additionally, #5 is outfitted with the latest Tangerine automation system for GML from THD-Labs. Commissioned by TFR’s owner, THD-Labs built the Tangerine for GML specifically for TFR and #5. This system provides smooth, seamless integration of software and hardware control between the physical console and the user’s DAW of choice, streamlining workflows and allowing for instant “in-the-box”- recall on the large format console.
The physical studio was designed by John Aquilino with acoustic design by Hanson Hsu from Delta H Designs and encompasses many of Hanson’s innovative ZR technologies through out the space. The result is a room that is completely tunable to the users needs and preferences, providing for unparalleled accuracy and sonic transparency that creates a listening environment that artists, engineers and producers can trust.
Tied together with 48 tile lines, The Focusrite Room shares seven more recording areas with its sister studio, The Platinum Underground to make even more sonic options available to our clients.
And while we embrace, support and make available all of the latest recording technologies to our clients, We believe music is about people, it’s about artists coming together to create something magical that will touch the live of many and last for generations. TFR is here to help them bring that vision to life.
